Redefining Outdoor Living with Custom Concrete & Gunite Pools

When homeowners across Hampton Roads want to turn their backyard into a luxurious, resort-style oasis, they turn to the premier experts at Vision Pools and Concrete. For families seeking the absolute pinnacle of design flexibility, structural integrity, and long-term property value, a custom concrete or gunite swimming pool is the definitive choice.

Unlike cookie-cutter, pre-formed options, a custom concrete pool is built entirely from scratch to match your exact lifestyle, architectural style, and property layout. Whether you reside in a modern waterfront build in Virginia Beach, a historic property in Norfolk, or a spacious suburban lot in Chesapeake, our expert team delivers breathtaking, tailor-made aquatic environments built to withstand coastal Virginia's unique climate.

Why Choose a Concrete (Gunite / Shotcrete) Pool?

Choosing the right material for your in-ground swimming pool is the most critical decision of the entire construction process. Concrete pools—typically built utilizing high-performance gunite or shotcrete application methods—offer unmatched advantages that other materials simply cannot replicate.

1. Limitless Design Versatility

If you can dream it, Vision Pools and Concrete can build it. Concrete is not restricted by standard factory molds or panel shapes.

  • Custom Configurations: Seamlessly fit challenging, sloped, or uniquely shaped yards with ease.
  • Bespoke Features: Integrate custom tanning ledges, built-in baja shelves, swim-up bar stools, zero-entry beach entries, and dramatic vanishing edge or infinity designs overlooking the water.
  • Integrated Spas & Waterfalls: Design a matching raised spa that cascades water gracefully into the main pool basin, complete with custom rock grottos, bubblers, and deck jets.

2. Unrivaled Structural Longevity

Coastal Virginia weather can be demanding on outdoor hardscapes, experiencing shifting soils, high humidity, and intense summer sun. Concrete pools are built as a monolithic, steel-reinforced structural shell. This robust engineering provides exceptional durability, ensuring that your investment stands strong for decades and outlives multiple generations of alternative pool liners.

3. Infinite Interior Finish Choices

Your pool’s interior surface dictates the look, feel, and water color of your entire outdoor space. Concrete pools allow for a vast selection of high-end finishes, including:

  • Traditional Plaster: Smooth, clean, and classic.
  • Pebble & Quartz Aggregate Finishes: Highly durable, textured finishes that offer stunning, jewel-toned water reflections and superior resistance to chemical wear.
  • Custom Tile Work: Accentuate your waterline, steps, and raised spas with hand-laid glass, ceramic, or stone tile mosaics for an upscale, architectural touch.

Our Custom Concrete Pool Construction Process

At Vision Pools and Concrete, we believe that building your dream pool should be an exciting, seamless journey from concept to the first splash. As a trusted local contractor servicing Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Suffolk, and Portsmouth, we manage every phase of your project with meticulous local precision.

  1. Consultation & 3D Design: We meet you on-site to evaluate your yard, discuss your vision, lifestyle needs, and budget, and translate your ideas into a comprehensive design plan.
  2. Permitting & Engineering: Navigating local building codes and coastal zoning requirements can be daunting. Our team handles all necessary municipal permits, engineering plans, and inspections, ensuring total compliance from day one.
  3. Excavation & Steel Reinforcement: Expert operators excavate the exact shape of your pool, followed by the installation of a heavy-duty grid of steel rebar to lock in structural strength.
  4. Gunite / Shotcrete Application: High-velocity concrete (gunite or shotcrete) is pneumatically applied around the steel framework, forming a thick, rock-solid concrete shell that cures into a permanent foundation.
  5. Coping, Tile, & Decking: Once cured, we install your hand-selected coping stones, decorative waterline tiles, and surrounding patio hardscapes (pavers, natural stone, or stamped concrete).
  6. Interior Finish & Fill: The final step involves applying your chosen interior surface finish before filling the pool, balancing the chemistry, and initiating system startup.

Comprehensive Pool Renovations & Remodeling

Already own a concrete pool that is showing its age? Over time, older plaster can stain, tiles can crack, and outdated equipment can spike your utility bills. Vision Pools and Concrete doesn't just build new pools—we specialize in total pool transformations.

  • Resurfacings & Re-plastering: Refresh your pool’s interior with modern pebble aggregate finishes.
  • Tile & Coping Replacement: Swap out outdated materials for modern, trend-setting stone and glass tiles.
  • Modern Equipment Upgrades: Cut your energy costs by upgrading to variable-speed pumps, automated smart-phone control systems, energy-efficient pool heaters, and vibrant LED color-changing lighting.
  • Layout Additions: Expand your outdoor footprint by adding a tanning ledge, a connected spa, or automated water features to an existing pool layout.
